Most people become an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer by attending a Certified School registered under the National Airworthiness Authority of that country. In what is typically an 18 to 24 month program, they must learn everything that is required for maintenance of a typical airplane. This is followed by an apprenticeship period which usually takes a minimum of 4 years. (Depending on the school attended, a portion of that time may count towards their apprenticeship.)

Students attend approved training 9 weeks a year over a period of 4 years while the student works in industry, on-job training (OJT). This allows the apprentice to complete their training and apprenticeship virtually at the same time.

AMEs must also learn all of the sections of the Local Aviation Regulations which pertain to them. Once the AME has completed this and pass the necessary exams, the AME will be given a Licence Without Type Rating (LWTR) for the relevant trade. In order to be type certified/type rated, AMEs must either go for another exam with the Local Aviation Authority for a specific type aircraft, normally small aircraft (based on aircraft weight); or attend a course and exam with the Quality Assurance Department of an Approved Organization/Airlines, normally for larger aircraft.

The different categories/trades are:

Airframe structures

Electrical systems

Instruments systems

Automatic pilots system

Radio communication system

Radio navigation system

Radar system

In-flight entertainment (IFE) system

Engine system

Propeller system

Also, in time, AMEs can advance and diverse to other sides of aircraft maintenance engineering, such as to quality assurance department as inspectors, to maintenance planning department, and so on. Source

It is broken into two major and overlapping branches, which are aeronautical engineering and astronautical engineering. The former deals with craft that stay within Earth’s atmosphere, and the latter deals with craft that operate outside of Earth’s atmosphere. While aeronautical engineering was the original term, the broader “aerospace” has superseded it in usage, as flight technology advanced to include craft operating in outer space. Aerospace engineering, particularly the astronautics branch, is often informally called rocket science. Note: Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering is not similar to aircraft maintainance engineering. reference

Its objective was to fulfill the need for skilled and semi-skilled human resources in the aeronautical field especially in the public sector. TUDM required human resources to operate, maintain, repair, oversee and manage different types of aircraft and UTM had the capability to produce graduates in this field. This need has continued to increase with the development in the airline industry in Malaysia which demands for more trained manpower especially engineers and technical assistants. The Aeronautical Engineering course in UTM is offered as a specialisation of Mechanical Engineering and covers five main areas namely Aerodynamics, Aircraft Structure, Flight Dynamics and Control, Propulsion and Aircraft Design. extracted from: www.utm.my

“The programme is called DIODE (Driving It Out, Doing the Extreme) Leadership Camp, because it combines elements of discovery and extreme leadership module for the younger generation to discover their leadership potential,” said Leaderonomics strategic project analyst Geraldine Sebastian.

Leaderonomics HR & finance lead Ang Hui Ming said the leaders who were invited to the programme came from various backgrounds like media, web, finance, performing arts and multinational corporations.

We get leaders from a broad range of ages and experiences — from young entrepreneurs to CEOs — to share their experiences and values. In a way, It’s a win-win situation because the leaders are often impressed by how much potential the youth have and learn something in return,” said Ang.

Diode camps are open to youths of all backgrounds to promote peer-sharing, whether those from privileged backgrounds or underprivileged homes.

DIODE’s leadership series for 2010 comprises the DIODE School Leavers Camp, DIODE Youth Leadership Camp and DIODE Tweens Camp.

While each camp has its respective modules, all of them focus on developing leadership skills for youth.

This is the stage where values are formed and we teach them about networking and survival skills.

The DIODE Youth Leadership Camp is for those aged between 14 and 17 years and focuses on leadership. We expose them to entrepreneurial programmes based on business simulation and activities.

We sincerely hope that this featured comment can somehow help you out if you are to apply any education loan.

Thanks for the list. Nice to see someone really taking the effort to help. Cheers.

I’d like to share my experience here, having been to the hardship to secure the loan for my Master degree in Software Engineering, and had tried most of the private and public banks i.e. OCBC, OUB, HSBC, CIMB, RHB, Rakyat, Public, Maybank, Hong Leong, EON and Islamic. I can tell you through my face-to-face experience, none of them offer loan in this recession time.

The only insurance company offers loan is Great Eastern, and mainly for undergraduate. You can speak to the manager Ms Melissa Ong.

Astro and Maxis stops sponsoring postgraduate too. well at least not for the IT, the last Maxis scholar was an MBA who worked for them more than 10 years. I doubt they are really mean the apps are open to public.

For my case it is slight different, it is possible to approach Khazanah-Merdeka scholarship, they can argue that they are independent and non-racist, when I approached them, it was no longer the case.

At once stage, I even tried GIC singapore scholarship, but Singapore also tighten up with financial prob too and reduce the number of scholar.

By the way, having to study at University of Oxford is a bless, and having to be a citizen of Malaysia is to train you be a tough guy.
