taxi fares malaysiaI believe you are probably not a Malaysian if you’ve reached this page. This article is written for those who came to Malaysia, especially foreign students without knowing how Taxi works in Malaysia. There are over 13000 taxis available in our main city Kuala Lumpur. The taxi fares are calculated according to meters. But, sometimes they don’t and will try to offer you a price before they start the car which I believe will be extraordinary expensive, or sometimes customers are being asked for exorbitant and high fees after you’ve reach your destination.

Therefore, before you hop into a taxi, please be sure that they run the meter as others do. Please do also ask for the fares to confirm they are not using a modified meter. If you are to call a taxi, ask for the fares first before saying “yes/ok” to the driver.

  1. I am an international student at multimedia university at cyberjaya, there is a taxi stand in front of our university which is used by a group of taxi drivers who newer use the taxi meter nor these fares and if we request such a thing they will laugh at us or some of them will become very angry and start to shout at us, last time when I asked them how they can do so, they answered because we are retired from the taxi company and right now we are not working for the company so this laws wont imply on us and we can use the fair that we are telling.
right now I want too ask if this excuse is true based on malaysian laws or not?

  2. although not in malasia yet the information is useful. thanks Reginald.

According to the law, taxi without bonding with any taxi company is not allowed to carry you (unless it’s free [=laughing] ).
In Malaysia, you have to just get used to it. If you are satisfied with the fares he offered you, take it, or else leave it.
Some old taxi uncles are nice and would probably give you a good fares, you may just take it and you won’t be sued by taking such taxi. So, have fun in Malaysia. [=:D]
