The Association of SouthEast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Scholarships aim to provide opportunities to the young people of ASEAN to develop their potential and equip them with skills that will enable them to confidently step into the new millennium. With Ministry of Education, Singapore as backbone, growing public praise that gained from nations of Southeast Asia, to study in Singapore is no longer a dream.

This scholarship leads to the award of the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A-Level) (or equivalent) certificates. Whereas for outstanding students who perform well in the GCE A-Level (or equivalent) Examination may apply for the ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarships offered by the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University or Singapore University of Technology and Design.

ASEAN Scholarships for Malaysia

Types and Eligibility – ASEAN Scholarships for Malaysia consists of three types:

#1 Secondary One Scholarships
It is tenable for 6 years leading to the award of the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A-Level) (or equivalent) certificate. This scholarship is for studies in selected Singapore schools from Secondary One to Pre-University Two.

  • Nationals of Malaysia
  • Born between (current year minus by 14 yrs) – (current year minus by 12 yrs)
    example: current year is 2011, the range will be 1997 – 1999
  • Currently in Standard 6 or Form 1
  • Have done consistently well in their school examinations
  • Proficiency in English and a good record of participation in co-curricular activities would be an advantage

#2 Secondary Three Scholarships
It is tenable for 4 years leading to the award of the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A-Level) (or equivalent) certificate. This scholarship is for studies in selected Singapore schools from Secondary Three to Pre-University Two.

  • Proficiency in English and a good record of participation in co-curricular activities would be an advantage

#3 Pre-University One Scholarships
It is tenable for 2 years leading to the award of the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A-Level) (or equivalent) certificate.  This scholarship is for 2 years of Pre-University studies in selected Singapore Junior Colleges. Whereas for outstanding students who perform well in the GCE A-Level (or equivalent) Examination may apply for the ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarships offered by the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University or Singapore University of Technology and Design.

  • Born between (current year minus by 18 yrs) – (current year minus by 16 yrs)

  • Have done consistently well in their school examinations
  • Proficiency in English and a good record of participation in co-curricular activities would be an advantage

ASEAN Scholarships for Malaysia

Application Procedures – Following procedures are applicable to mentioned type of scholarships: #1, #2, #3

Step 1: Application Modes

Applicants are reminded to make application via either one of the following modes only:

Online (strongly recommended) E-Application Form
Hardcopy Download-able Application Form

Step 2: Preparation of Supporting Documents

Certified copies of supporting documents:

  • Birth Certificate;
  • Identity Card / Passport (if any); and
  • Final Year Examination Result Slips for the last two years

Original documents that are not in English must be translated, respective translations must be accompanied by a photocopy of the original documents. Please do not send any original documents, they are not required.

Step 3: Submission of Applications and Supporting Documents

Applications (Step 1) and Supporting Documents (Step 2) should reach the Singapore Ministry of Education before the closing date, at this address:

Please take note that for applications via:

Online – Only supporting documents are needed to be sent, however, online applicants are reminded to provide online application number for verification purpose.
Hardcopy – Both application form and supporting documents are to be sent together.

Step 4: Notification from the Authority

Applicants short-listed for the selection test / interview will be notified a week before the selection test / interview dates. Only short-listed candidates will be notified. Further information / instructions will be given to short-listed applicants.
