In english, PTPTN (Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional) is known as  National Higher Education Fund Corporation, it is one of the earliest and popular education loans provided by Malaysia government which possess high demand from students who are pursuing studies in IPT (Institusi Pengajian Tinggi).

In 2007, through an announcement made by PTPTN Chief Executive Officer, Mr.Yunos Abd Chani, students pursuing long distance or part-time studies in IPTA (Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Awan) are eligible to apply PTPTN education loan, experience education loan services as offered to full-time student.

Why is PTPTN Well-known by Public?

a) Loan Coverage

Foremost, PTPTN education loan is eligible to be applied for the studies of diploma, degree, master, doctorate and  professional courses. In short, loans offered cover wide variety of education levels.

b) Loan Flexibility

Secondly, one must not have result with flying colors in order to apply it. One of the objectives of PTPTN Education Loan Scheme is to provide a greater opportunities to student to pursue their tertiary education, with least rigorous standards been set, students with moderate grades are able to apply as well.

c) Loan Repayment

Upon completion of studies or termination of loan, students are given a time period of 6 months before loan repayment started. These 6 months are considered to be more than enough  for one to find a job and obtain a stable income rate, in other words, applicants are given sufficient time period to adopt themselves into working environment, as well as to prepare a good financial plan which takes into account of loan repayment.

How to Apply?

Part 1 (Terms and Conditions)

Before going into details, it is vital for one to ensure that he or she meets every terms and conditions  stated below. For simplicity, it has been broken down into 2 sets, first set is subjected to applicant who wishes to apply PTPTN education  loan for diploma programs, whereas the second set is subjected to applicant who wishes to apply PTPTN education loan for degree programs.

Set 1: For Diploma Programs (Part 1 & Part 2)

1) Must be a Malaysian citizen.

2) Own a legal email account.

3) Not exceeding 45 years old upon application.

4) Currently does not bind to any contracts or having sponsor.

5) General academic requirements are as follow:

  • Condition 1 (Progression from SPM)
    a. 3 credits in SPM including a pass for Bahasa Melayu.

6) Duration of  chosen diploma program must be at least for 1 year.

7) Must be registered for the current courses.

8) Accreditation Certificate from the MQA must be obtained by IPTS student.

* Only for student from IPTS.
* The course and Accreditation Certificate approval period must still be valid upon the date of application.
* Related form for application of the Accreditation Certificate can be downloaded from here.

9) PTPTN loans require two 2 guarantors that must consist of biological father and mother of student.

Set 2: For Degree Programs (Level 1 & Level 2)

1) Must be a Malaysian citizen.

2) Own a legal email account.

3) Not exceeding 45 years old upon application.

4) Currently does not bind to any contracts or having sponsor.

5) General academic requirements are as follow:

  • Condition 1 (Progression from Foundation studies)
    a. Foundation results.
    b. 5 credits in SPM including a pass for Bahasa Melayu.
  • Condition 2 (Progression from Diploma studies)
    a. Diploma Transcripts/Certificate.
    b. Minimum 3 credits in SPM including a pass for Bahasa Melayu.
  • Condition 3 (Progression from A Level studies)
    a. A Level with minimum 2 principal passes.
    b. Minimum 5 credits in SPM including a pass for Bahasa Melayu.
  • Condition 4 (Progression from STPM, Form6)
    a. STPM with NGMP 2.0 and above for 2 subjects including Pengajian Am.
    b. Minimum 5 credits in SPM including a pass for Bahasa Melayu.

6) Duration of the chosen degree program must be at least for 1 year.

* Level 3 students are not eligible to apply PTPTN education  loan.

7) Must be registered for the current courses.

8) Accreditation Certificate from the MQA must be obtained by IPTS student.

* Only for student from IPTS.
* The course and Accreditation Certificate approval period must still be valid upon the date of application.

Part 2 (Baby Steps on How to Apply)

As soon as each and every conditions have been met, application of PTPTN education loan can be started right away. For easier understanding, essential details will be shown and arranged in a total number of  7 steps.

Step 1: Obtain a PIN NUMBER which costs RM 5.00 from BSN (Bank Simpanan Nasional).

* The PIN number will only be valid for 6 months.

Step 2: Locate and communicate with related inter-mediator in institution.

* An inter-mediator mainly is staff from Student Services or Administration Department who responsible for any affairs regarding to PTPTN education loan.
* Ask any questions and get accurate information, always put guides given from the inter-mediator at the very first place than what is suggested here.

Step 3: Open a savings account at CIMB Bank.

* Account to be created must be under applicant’s name, ensure that it will be a personal account.
* Not necessarily will be CIMB Bank, applicants are advised to seek confirmation from the inter-mediator.

Step 4: Register a new user account at PTPTN epinjaman webpage.

* Only for new applicant (ab initio).

Step 5: Login account registered at PTPTN epinjaman webpage and fill in all required informations.

* Applicant must make sure all details given are accurate and up to date.
* Amendment of information can be done at anytime before closing date approaches.

Step 6: Visit to PTPTN epinjaman webpage and check the status of application.

* Checking is advised to be done after 5 working days since the closing date.

Step 7: Communicate with related inter-mediator.

* Mainly will be to get the date which PTPTN officers will collect the hard copies and required documents from successful applicants.
